5th Grade Ballroom Stars

When I’m not in New York City I’m traveling on the east coast with my dance program, 5th Grade Ballroom Stars.

5th Grade Ballroom Stars began in 2008 as a pilot program at two elementary schools in Baltimore, MD.  Each year the program has doubled in size.  During the 2010-2011 school year the program is offered at over 12 schools.

The 5th grade students receive five consecutive days of lessons during their specials.  Students learn basic history about the ballroom dance and various styles are introduced. (Merengue, Tango, Swing, Cha-Cha).  The students learn the importance of respecting each other through their dance partnerships.

The program was featured on  WBAL TV 11 News (8 November, 2010), “Ballroom dancing has never been more popular, and at one Baltimore County elementary school, the kids are getting into the swing of things with a special program that introduces fifth graders to the tango, the cha cha and more.”   Students at Sandy Plains Elementary got to show their dance skills off to reporter Jennifer Franciotti.  SEE VIDEO
